SAY GOODBYE

I said goodbye to my beautiful family and headed off to NYC to have an affair with an '81 FXE... she was sweet as and a keeper but true to my previous post about passing it forward I have done the necessary and passed it on to a friend in Sweden who was looking for this exact model and was born in '81 [bastard].

Now that gives me the need for a project.... I couldn't chop up that shovel, too unfucked with.
In the States I met Caleb and JD from Culver City. They have their own style going on - all up and not so much out, JDs is the one with the paint. In my opinion they were the best riding bikes in Brooklyn.
Caleb rode with us down south and I got to see him firing though the winding roads on his dry build bike - it tracked beautifully, no doubt Caleb can ride but still whatever geometry he has got in that thing let him push hard round the corners.
Anyone interested in selling me a 68 FLH project get in touch.....23bricks@gmail.com... so I can get a bit of Culver City.

ROAD STORY

150 miles into the return to new jersey the gasket blew on the rear cylinder of the fxe down to a head bolt backing out.
The gas coming out of the motor set fire to the wiring and bits under our backsides.. Toshi and I smothered it and all fine except the lack of a shovelhead gasket, on a Sunday.
We pushed the bike over to a motel and helped by their wifi set about finding a way to get us and the bike to NJ in time to catch our plane home.
Since I had enough tools and the HD wizard with me we could fix it there so I rang all local independent bike shops for a gasket with no answer. I got an email from a new friend and biker, Mike in Floyd Va suggesting places to call, again no joy.  I then rang budget etc for a van but same until I rang Jen at Jennings Auto in Staunton, Va. She was in work picking up something with her kids.
10mins later she came and collected me, hired me the uhaul truck, showed me where wal mart was to get dome ratchet straps and lent me a ramp.
By the time I got back to tosh & the bike Jen was there with her husband to help load the bike and collect the ramp to save us taking it back to the shop.

Real American generosity & hospitality from strangers.

In her shop I saw a card about 'paying it forward' so this episode puts me at -3 favours.

We may not be riding but this is all part of the beauty of riding across foreign countries on old bikes. Without fail people come and help with no other intention but to give.

I looked up paying it forward... This is Anglo American Ben Franklins take on it in 1784:

I do not pretend to give such a Sum; I only lend it to you. When you [...] meet with another honest Man in similar Distress, you must pay me by lending this Sum to him; enjoining him to discharge the Debt by a like operation, when he shall be able, and shall meet with another opportunity. I hope it may thus go thro' many hands, before it meets with a Knave that will stop its Progress. This is a trick of mine for doing a deal of good with a little money.

I love the FXE, the old hippy (his words) I bought it from was true in all he said about the bike and I turned up in Brooklyn, got drunk and (when sober) rode down the blue ridge parkway on it. It started first kick and doesn't leak oil,
In fact, after the roads we took down to NC, I don't blame the bike for failing to proceed on interstate 81 when it can relax in the back of a van instead of slogging up the trunk roads.

What a great trip, I had a real good cheeseburger at 5 guys and I'm knackered..

If you need anything, ask.
Otherwise ride.

United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC)

United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC) In Affiliation With Barack Obama Campaign to Assist Scammed Individuals In The Settlement Of Disputes

Attention Recipient,

How are you today? Hope all is well with you and your family? You may not understand why this mail came to you but kindly read for your perusal and follow the giving procedures for your claim.

This decision was made two months before the resolution of the first instalment of claims before the Commission.

The Federal Government of Nigeria under the ministry of finance with world bank and IMF(INTERNATIONAL MONETORY FUND)UNITED NATIONS Has adopted this adminstrative measure owing to various complain/pertitions received from beneficiary owning to the delays in receiving their Contract/Inheritance/ Gambling/ Lottery Fund as expected.

As stated in the Secretary-General's report of 2 May 2006,it was anticipated that the value of approved awards would far exceed the resources available in the Compensation Fund at any given time.

The Governing Council therefore devised a mechanism for the allocation of available funds to successful claimants that gave priority to the three urgent categories of claims and which, within each category, would give equal treatment to similarly situated claims. Only when each successful claimant in categories "A","B"and "C" had been paid an initial amount up to US$2,500 would payments commence for claims in other categories. Accordingly, the first phase of payment involved an initial payment of US$2,500 to each successful individual claimant in categories "A" and "C".

However, for humanitarian reasons, all category"B"claims will be paid in full of a total US$700,000.00 A total of US$35,252,337,997.09 was made available to 10 successful individual claimants in categories "A", "B" and "C" under the first phase of payments.

This includes every foreign contractor that may have not received their contract sum, and people that have had an unfinished transaction or international businesses that failed due to Government problems etc. We found your name in our list and that is why you are receiving this email notification.
